IBE Vibes 2025/Kosher Camp Abilities 2025
06/29/25
From June 29 to July 6, 2025, IBE Vibes/Kosher Camp Abilities 2025 hosted an empowering week-long program for 10 participants aged 8 to 30. The camp emphasized adaptive sports tailored for the visually impaired, alongside workshops on daily living skills, self-advocacy, and work-readiness, fostering independence and confidence.
This immersive experience brought together visually impaired individuals for a transformative week of learning, physical activity, and community building. Participants engaged in sports like goalball and blind soccer, mastered practical life skills, and developed strategies for self-advocacy and professional growth, all within a supportive and inclusive environment.
It's Our Message and We Sing It!
IBE Vibes Camp Song Lyrics
You seem to be very inspired by me, Because I'm blind or can't clearly see, But do you know my true ability? Do you know who I can really be? I can do many things independently, Give me a chance and I'll do them proudly! It may look hard, different or funny, Don't do it for me and don't worry! I want to do even more, but I may need- You to show me how then I'll do it freely! I also know about self-advocacy, To speak up when I have some difficulty. I can do many things independently, Give me a chance and I'll do them proudly! It may look hard, different, or funny, Don't do it for me and don't worry! PS and YES This is not a guessing game, If you can see me say your name! I'm singing this little ditty-dee, Because I am part of IBE-And Kosher Camp Abilities!
Blindness-Optimized Sports At Vibes
At IBE Vibes 2025, we embraced the power of adaptive sports to empower visually impaired participants, demonstrating that with the right tools and modifications, any activity is achievable. Our campers, aged 8 to 30, participated in a variety of blindness-focused and blindness-optimized sports, including goalball, blind soccer, basketball, running, and more. These activities not only promoted physical fitness but also built confidence, teamwork, and a sense of accomplishment.

Goalball, a sport designed for the visually impaired
Goalball, a Paralympic sport specifically developed for visually impaired athletes, was a highlight of IBE Vibes 2025. Played on an indoor court, goalball involves two teams of three players who attempt to throw a ball embedded with bells into the opposing team's goal. The ball's bells allow players to track its movement through sound, and the game is played in near silence to enhance auditory focus. All players wear blackout goggles to ensure a level playing field, regardless of their degree of vision. At IBE Vibes, we introduced campers to this dynamic sport, teaching them the rules, strategies, and techniques. The experience was both challenging and exhilarating, fostering teamwork and spatial awareness.
Optimizing sports for the visually impaired
At IBE Vibes, we believe that blindness is not a barrier to achievement, rather, it's an opportunity to innovate and adapt. By implementing specialized tools and techniques, we transformed traditional sports into accessible, engaging experiences for our visually impaired campers. For example, in blind soccer, players wore wristbands equipped with bells to signal their positions to teammates and opponents, creating an auditory map of the field. The soccer ball itself contained bells with a distinct sound, enabling players to track its movement through the air or on the ground. This adaptation turned soccer into an exciting, fast-paced game that thrilled our campers and highlighted their ability to compete at a high level.

Similarly, basketball was adapted by attaching a high-frequency audio beacon to the hoop, allowing players to locate it through sound. Campers honed their auditory skills to aim and shoot, mastering the challenge with practice and determination. For running, we used guide runners and tactile cues to ensure safety and coordination. In all sports, our approach was rooted in empowerment: we provided initial guidance and tools, then encouraged campers to take ownership of their participation, fostering independence and pride.

These adaptations exemplify our philosophy: with thoughtful modifications, visually impaired individuals can excel in any activity. Whether it’s the jingle of bells on a wristband or the distinctive sound of a ball in motion, these tools create an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive. The joy and enthusiasm our campers displayed—whether scoring a goal in soccer or sinking a basket in basketball—underscored the limitless potential of adaptive sports.
